Head north of Lakefield on either the Young’s Point Road or on Highway 28 and you find your self in the the small village of Young’s Point. Established in 1825, Young’s Point is approximately 25 km north of Peterborough. Lock #27 of the Trent-Severn waterway in Young’s Point is the connection point of Stoney Lake upstream and Katchewanooka Lake down stream.

The Young Family settled the area and built the first dam and grist mill at this location. The Trent-Severn Lock at Young’s Point is a National Historic Site and much of the early history of the area can still be seen there today. The lock it self was built in the early 1870’s allowing for boat travel on the Trent-Severn. While visiting the lock station don’t miss the cairn that marks the spot of the original Young Family homestead. The Lockside Trading Company is home to one of the later generation buildings and still welcomes customers 363 days a year.

The lock has a lift of seven feet: To the south you can travel through Katchewanooka Lake towards Lakefield and on toPeterborough, to the north travel through Clear Lake and on to Stoney, Buckhorn and Pigeon Lakes and beyond.

In 1887 the Old Bridge Inn was built; originally run as a general store (the Kearney Store), it’s now a bed and breakfast.

In addition, Young’s Point is host to several recreational facilities, including, golf courses, several bed & breakfast hotels, marinas and restaurants.

With a low population density and significant amounts of privately owned wooded land, Young’s Point is also a favorite spot for residents of nearby Peterborough and Lakefield to enjoy the beauty of the Kawartha Lakes.
